asapm Helps Form International
Business Development Council


International Business Development Council logoIn September 2008, representatives from seven professional organizations met at the headquarters of the American Society of Association Executives in Washington, DC, to establish strategic alliances through an umbrella organization, later named the "International Business Development Council" (IBDC).

The Council was officially formed on 9 March 2009. Read the press release here.

The Council’s goal is to develop global partnerships and programs that benefit the members represented by the consituent organizations, and promote the value and recognition of their respective professions through:

  • Research and knowledge sharing, i.e. common body of knowledge and thought leadership, reciprocal agreements for access to separate bodies of knowledge, conference participation, etc.
  • Mutual support with speaker exchanges, recruitment of new members, promotion of events, awareness development (booth swaps, etc.)
  • Reciprocal member discounts for publications, conferences, symposia, seminars, chapter events, webinars and workshops
  • Collaboration on curricula and accreditation programs, career path development, college and university affiliations, mentor/protégé programs, etc.

There are seven founding members of the IBDC, with a collective membership of more than 20,000:

ibdc5The Business Development Institute International (BD-Institute) is a non-profit organization, dedicated to promoting business development (BD) excellence through the Capability Maturity Model® for Business Development (BD-CMM).

We provide direct support and services to organizations that use BD-CMM as their framework, path, and guide for managing and improving business development results.


ibdc4The International Association for Contract & Commercial Management (IACCM) is a non-profit foundation recognized as the international authority on the role of contracting and Commitment Management in the global networked economy. A leader in research and innovative learning techniques, IACCM works with corporations, public and academic bodies to provide thought-leadership and understanding of "best practice" contracting and relationship standards.


ibdc3The National Contract Management Association (NCMA) is a membership-based, professional society, formed in 1959 to foster the professional growth and educational advancement of its members. NCMA leads and represents the contract management profession.

Our vision is that enterprises will succeed through improved buyer–seller relationships based on common values, practices, and professional standards.

NCMA's mission is to improve organizational performance through effective contract management.


ibdc6The Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) is a global nonprofit membership organization for everyone involved in creating and managing business knowledge. Our mission is to enhance the success of our members through leadership, education, advocacy, and networking.

SCIP provides education and networking opportunities for business professionals working in the rapidly growing field of competitive intelligence (the legal and ethical collection and analysis of information regarding the capabilities, vulnerabilities, and intentions of business competitors). Many SCIP members have backgrounds in market research, strategic analysis, or science and technology.


ibdc2The American Society for the Advancement of Project Management (asapm) is a US-based not-for-profit professional society dedicated to advancing the project management discipline. asapm provides needed leadership for professional growth of Program and Project Managers, and of the profession. The resulting enhancement of the profession benefits practitioners, their respective organizations, and the project management community. asapm is working at the forefront of the project management discipline to accelerate practices, procedures, and techniques to their best use. asapm is the US member affiliate of IPMA, the International Project Management Association.
