Membership News, December 2004

First of all I want to thank every one that took part in the member
survey. The fact that we had a response of over forty percent tells me
you are interested in what we are trying to accomplish.
Congress Results
There were three parts to the survey. The first portion was related
to the Conference or Congress to be held in April 2005. The results of
that portion of the survey indicated that Boston was the first choice
with
Tampa
coming
up second. Most people wanted a two day conference and there was a pretty
even split between those that preferred presentations to those that preferred
round-table discussions. Seminars came in a distant third.
Suggested topics for the conference included information from asapmas to our goals for the members and for certification. Other top choices
included the information about IPMA, risk management, portfolio management,
best practices, and soft skills including selling PM to upper management.
One of the questions regarded whether or not you would attend. Fifty
percent of you responded with “Undecided”. My job
will be to change that into a resounding “Yes”.
With that goal in mind I would like to share our present plans. Briefly,
we are planning a two day conference in the Boston area for mid-April
of next year. The conference will include a mix of presentation and round
table discussions. Days for the conference are presently planned to be
Friday and Saturday. We are presently negotiating the site for the conference,
so details will follow shortly as to the location and conference hotel
arrangements.
PMCoP Results
The second portion of the survey concerned PMCoPs (Project Management
Communities of Practice). We had a good deal of interest in this area.
asapm is looking at the PMCoP as an alternative to a more
formal chapter arrangement. The PMCoP will actually come in
many
sizes and
shapes, from small living room type get-togethers to larger groups
who meet to discuss the world of PM. The PMCoP process is being finalized
and we will have an announcement to the membership with details as
a Christmas present to the group. I was hoping to be able to let you
read about it over the Thanksgiving meal but there are probably more
interesting things to do on that day anyway.
Member Interests
Lastly, the third portion of the survey concerned what you as members
would like to see from asapm in the future. Top topics here
included more frequent newsletters with interesting PM related articles
and
more
frequent conferences.
Other areas include expanding the knowledge base with reading lists and
critiques, perks for members, and training, I will be taking these on
and letting you know what our plans are for next year. My goal is to
make each and every one of you glad you joined and ready to sell us to
your friends.
asapm has come a long way and we are looking forward to the
New Year. Here is wishing you a “Happy Holidays” and let
you know that we have heard you and will do our best to respond.
