The 2010 Dialogue Series:
Which Animal In the Zoo Are You? Exploring Social Styles in Project Management
Date: August 5
Time: 3:00PM EDT
Presenter: Stacy Goff, asapm President
Legend has it that Socrates described his contemporaries in terms of their Social Styles. Whether you've been exposed to Myers Briggs Type Indicator, or one of the many quadrant-based models, these are either pop psychology or useful tools, depending on how you use them--and whether your projects benefit from your use of them.
The August 5 2010 Dialogue Series webinar was first presented at the 2009 IPMA World Congress, in Helsinki Finland. We originally proposed an abstract for a deep, technical analysis of the steps needed to assess and improve individual, project and organizational PM performance. Jyry, the Congress Chair, suggested something a bit more "refreshing". After all, he said, the theme of the Congress was to refresh yourself.
So we searched our presentations and came up with a session on social styles. Social style has been around for a long time, but it boomed when Tracom (a Denver, Colorado company) posted their model in the 1970s. Recognizing the importance of "the soft side" in project teamwork, we developed our own model and used it in improving performance of project teams from the 1980s onward. But to freshen it up for the Congress, we related different styles to animals in a zoo. Thus, this webinar.
Among the take-aways from this webinar:
- Dimensions of Social Style
- Relating Zoo Animals to Classic Social Styles
- Distinguishing the "Gee Whiz" from the "So What"
- Analyzing the Project Strengths of Each Social Style
- What Makes the Best Project Teams?
- Opposing Styles; Unique PM Profiles
- Social Styles Uses Beyond the Zoo
This Dialogue Webinar is for:
- Project Managers and Team Members who wish to build more effective teams.
- Project Sponsors wishing to gain a better understanding of the "soft side" of project management.
- Managers of Project Managers and Teams who wish to improve the way you manage your zoo.
