Purpose
The goal of the asapm Intellectual Property and Publications
Policy is to promote and increase the exchang
e and development of information
and technology in the field of Project Management. The means used by asapm to achieve these goals is to provide authors and intellectual property owners
with attribution, compensation where appropriate, and/or other consideration
for their contributions to asapm. The level of attribution and other consideration
is a function of the scope of rights granted to asapm, as the following options
illustrate:
Intellectual Property Rights Overview
The diagram below shows the relative rights for each of the asapm Intellectual
Property Options; options on the left provide asapm with greater rights, generally for a consideration. Options to the right provide
authors with greater rights.

- Option 1: Works assigned to asapm for a consideration
- Option 2: Exclusive License to asapm for distribution
of the works
- Option 3: Exclusive License to asapm, including
rights to enhancements and derivatives
- Option 4: Nonexclusive License to asapm for distribution
of the works
- Option 5: Non-exclusive License to asapm, including
rights to distribute enhancements & derivatives
- Option 6: Participants in asapm works receive
attribution and non-exclusive rights to distribute.
We expect that options 3, 5 and 6 will be the most frequently exercised. Thus,
they are explained in more detail below. For more information, each option also
has a link to an Adobe Acrobat version of the License Agreement. The license

Explanation of the Options
Option 3
Scope: A Company/Author grants asapm exclusive
rights to reproduce a work AND to make enhancements and derivatives thereof.
- Example: A Researcher produces a study of Enterprise Project Management
tools that asapm edits and extends, then sells to
our members and to the public.
- Compensation: asapm will pay royalties for all
copies sold. Royalties decline over time to compensate asapm for contributions made in making the derivative works.
- Attribution: Full attribution to the Author to continue through all derivative
works.

Agreement 3
Option 5
Scope: A Company or Author grants asapm nonexclusive
rights to reproduce a work AND to make enhancements and derivatives thereof.
- Example: Author provides a Competence Model that asapm adapts for use in the Education and Certification program, then posts to our
website.
- Compensation: Attribution plus asapm will pay
royalties for any copies sold.
- Royalty declines over time to compensate asapm for contributions made in making the derivative works.
- Attribution: Full attribution to the Author to continue through all derivative
works.

Agreement 5.
Option 6
Scope: A Company/Author participates in an asapm Committee
to develop a new original work. asapm owns the work.
Each participant is granted nonexclusive right to use their contribution to
the resulting work for their own internal or external purposes.
- Example: A group of practitioners participate in the development of a new
standard.
- Compensation: None beyond the grant of nonexclusive rights. asapm will have
rights to sale of copies.
- Attribution: Full attribution to the Author(s). Documentation to complete
