asapm In Review
It is customary for the president to issue a "State of the ...." message
to first identify items where we have made progress and layout a general
plan for the future year.
First, Year 2003 has been significant in that we have made some good
progress and have some promising activities started. In October 2003,
I made a list of things that we needed to accomplish. Click
here to see the list. Let me list our achievements for the year.
1) Our administrative procedures have been improved significantly with
Secretary-Treasurer Rose Johnston taking on a great task to ensure we
have records, finances, and other adminstrative items developed sufficiently
to support
the Society.
Although these actions are in the background and not visible unless they
are not done, they are important. Thanks Rose for a great job of pulling
together the parts.
2) Our website has been upgraded through the efforts of Stacy Goff and
continues to improve through additions such as articles and features.
A big thanks
to Stacy for his dedication and long hours to make this happen.
3) A conference has been planned for this year
through the efforts of Bob Y. There remain some
challenges
to solidify this, but Bob is working with a number of folks to make it
happen.
4) Our application to join IPMA was submitted in March 2003 and there
is a meeting of the IPMA Council of Delegates scheduled for March 27,
2004 to act upon the request. We will provide a short presentation
on asapm highlighting the progress that we have made as a professional
association.
5) Membership has nearly doubled in 2003. We have approximately 60 members
in good standing. However, we need more effort to retain current members
as well as get new ones. Thanks to Bill Duncan, Bob Youker, Stacy Goff,
Rose Johnston, Ed Fern and others for your great recruiting efforts.
6) Our first Newsletter was issued in 2003 thanks to the work of Bob
Youker. and Stacy. Joel Saren has taken on the Newsletter for the future.
7) Certification is being worked by several folks to ensure a competence-based
program. It is a challenge to build this program because of the vast
amount of work required to develop the framework and fill in under that
umbrella. Three meetings have been held and another planned for February
to continue the work. Thanks to the team: Bill, Stacy, Rose, Ken Fenster,
Ron Waller, and Lew.
8) The Elections committee for the 2004 election of officers
and directors is being formed by Stacy. All Board members except Joel
are
up for re-election
(Joel continues for another year). One of the requirements of the Bylaws
is that we have staggered terms (about 1/3 elected each year). Stacy
is structuring "the stagger" while forming the Nominations Committee.
Thanks Stacy.
9) Rose is reviewing the Bylaws to see where we need changes to improve
their clarity and allow us to engage IPMA and PMCert.
To be legal and true to our constituency, we need to follow the Bylaws
—
and
in
some
cases
we
need
to adjust the
Bylaws
to improve organizational operations. Thanks, Rose.
For 2004, we need to identify projects that we can use to improve the
organization while completing some in the mill. Please review the volunteers
needed list on the website, and see what you can do to help improve our
results. In your review, challenge yourself
to do something for asapm whether
it is individually or as a part of a team. If you have some slack time
or can generate some time to work on a project, let me know.
Thanks for everyone's individual efforts to grow the organization. Let's
make this the best not-for-profit organization in North America. We
can do more in 2004!
Best regards,
Lew
