Major Responsibilities
1. Serves on the Board of Directors as a voting member.
2. Assures that asapm Member Services activities are aligned with the society’s strategic goals and
plans.
3. Plans and execute activities in accordance with the Member Services budget.
4. Coordinates Member Services activities with other affiliated professional associations, as required.
5. Represents asapm on Member Services matters with other professional associations.
6. Ensures that Member Services activities are conducted in a professional manner.
7. Prepares a plan of actions for the next year and presents it to the Board of Directors.
General Duties
1. Participates in Board meetings two or more times per year.
2. Develops annual plans and budget to guide Member Services activities.
3. Owns and maintains the Membership List, keep it current based on information from the Secretary-
Treasurer. Example uses: Publishing the Newsletter; Voting.
4. Directs the writing, production and publishing of the newsletter to Members, and provides a
version for Marketing to publish for non-members.
5. Establishes and maintains the Community of Practice program, a member involvement program
that provides a format for inviting friends and associates to a meeting to discuss topics germane
to the PM discipline.
6. Directs the establishment and coordination of asapm Project Management Communities of Practice
(PMCoP), because one of the greatest benefits of membership is the unique networking with your
peers.
7. Responsible for posting useful and meaningful content in the Members Only Area of the asapm
website.
8. Maintains the Meet Our Members (MOM) section of the website, with frequently-added entries.
9. Coordinates research, recommendation and provision of other Member Services, including (but not
limited to) journals and magazines, the membership directory, a jobs board, and Awards Program.
10. Quarterly, or as required, reports progress and status on Member Services activities to the Board
of Directors and for the Society newsletter and website.

Candidate Statement:
I am Brent M. Hansen, a member of the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management (asapm). I have served in various professional and not-for-profit organizations that have prepared me for the role of Member Services Director with asapm. I am willing, able, and committed to serve if I am elected to the position of asapm Director of Member Services. I plan to dedicate the time and resources needed to execute this position's responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Successful background in account management for a 300 Million dollar company.
- Actively serving in a role in the PMO of a large multinational organization.
- Over 16 Years project management practioners experience, including: Construction, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Material Handling Systems, Computer Hardware, and Software.
- Served in several capacities for the World Trade Association of Utah. Including the roles for membership. Brent held positions as Board Member, Vice-President (2003, 2004, 2009) and President (2005). Maintained the database and communications to over 2,000 companies. Assisted in the web site creation and management. Partnered with several other organizations.
- Doctoral Level education in International Business. Focus of doctoral dissertation was on the effect of cultural on project outcomes. DBA with honors, MBA, Business Administration (BSBA), Management (BAM), and Marketing (BSMKT). Lifetime member of Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society. Many specialty schools and classes.
- Able to negotiate and partner for the advancement of the organization. I will work for win-win options for asapm.
- Strategic vision and ability to tactically execute for the organization.
- Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute.
- Extensive technological background and keeps informed of current technology.
- Experience in teaching and training of Project Management to organizations and individuals.
- Able to build, enable, and facilitate effective teams that produce results.
Goals for the Director of Member Services Position
Working together with asapm Officers and Directors, to:
- Increase and maintain the society's membership.
- Further increase the benefits of being a member of asapm.
- Increase member volunteer efforts in the asapm's programs.
- Increase the visibility of asapm, our initiatives and our certifications among organizations, executive management, influencers, and project managers.
- Increase the involvement of Project Management Providers and Vendors in asapm's programs.
- Improve the use and usefulness of the asapm website and email newsletter.
- Increase the opportunities for member-to-member networking through the asapm Members Only site, Congresses, local-group formation using PMCoPs ( Project Management Communities of Practice); form asapm Chapters, where we have concentrations of members.
- Provide a sound database that can be an incredible tool for advancing asapm, while maintaining the security of our members and data.
