Evaluating Project and Program Management Complexity

captured from Google EarthJust as the complexity of the roadways you travel affects your success in getting to your destination (as shown from a Google satellite image at right), project or program management complexity is a key factor that affects your success in those initiatives. As a consequence, complexity is an essential consideration in seeking the right PM certification.

This page is a roadmap to understanding project and program management complexity, as it affects your qualifications for advanced PM certifications, and as it affects your career development planning.

Project Management Complexity Evaluation

asapm certification uses a complexity evaluation tool for projects, to distinguish between those whose sample projects qualify for IPMA Level C®, Certified Project Manager, and IPMA Level B®, Certified Senior Project Manager. Or, your sample project may not qualify you for IPMA Level C®. In that case, you should select another project.

See the asapm Project Management Complexity Evaluation tool here.

Our exam-based certification, IPMA Level D®, Certified Project Management Associate (and possibly other exam-based PM certifications in the USA), may be suitable for you if your projects are not complex enough to score at least 35 points in our Project Management Complexity Evaluation tool.

Here is a key insight, as we note in the explanation of results in the Project Management Complexity Evaluation tool. The column (on the evaluation tool) furthest to the right with an option button selected indicates the level of IPMA/asapm certification you should strive for in your continuing career development, to improve your project performance and business results.

Program Management Complexity Evaluation

We also have a management complexity evaluation tool for programs, to distinguish between those whose sample programs qualify for IPMA Level B, Certified Program Manager, and IPMA Level A®, Certified Senior Program Manager. Or, your sample program may not qualify you for a program manager certification. In that case, you should select another sample program, or seek an IPMA Level C or B project manager certification.
